Shields are defensive equipment primarily used by Knights to reduce incoming damage. Paladins may also equip shields when using throwing weapons such as Assassin Stars to balance offense and defense. For Sorcerers and Druids, the typical alternative is a Spellbook, though in certain situations—especially when facing strong melee opponents—using a shield can provide superior protection. Monks generally do not use shields, as all of their fist weapons require both hands to wield effectively.
Equipping a shield enables the user to block a portion of incoming attacks from creatures or other players, which in turn increases their Shielding skill over time.
Below shows the best shields for Paladins and Knights:
For Paladins level 300 and higher, the best shield is the Falcon Escutcheon (Def:40, protection physical +7%, fire +15%).
For Knights level 400 and higher, the best shield is the Soulbastion (Def:42, protection physical +10%, death +10%).
For general use across all vocations, the Blessed Shield remains the strongest unrestricted option. On Rookgaard, the Copper Shield is the most powerful shield available.
