Sidebar

Ok, I enabled the sidebar again, on this page. I have come so far, but a few things require a little fix.

Template:Infobox Rune and other pages have no sidebar yet. I'm not sure if this is wanted. -- Bennie (talk ~ fellows) 09:53, August 20, 2012 (UTC)

Also, the sidebar should be removed from templates who don't use them, like Template:Infobox Geography. -- Bennie (talk ~ fellows) 09:58, August 20, 2012 (UTC)

When the creature pages previously had sidebars, the sidebar code was present on the Infobox Creature page, rather than a separate page. If I were to hazard a guess (with little wiki-knowledge), I would think that the new Infobox Creature/SideBar template can't access the primarytype and secondarytype parameters on the source creature page. Maybe passing primarytype and secondary type to the template e.g., | sidebar = {{ Infobox Creature/SideBar | primarytype | secondarytype }} would do the trick? Just a thought. --Kharzad Ironfist 21:47, August 20, 2012 (UTC)

I don't like the idea of NPC sidebars. Actually, I don't like any of the sidebars. I used to see them as helpful but now they are a hindrance. I like the idea of a "related items/npcs/creatures/objects" section but would much prefer them as boxes beneath the information as in Template:Items.

I added that JS because having fixed vertical space made it impossible to work with the new trades system. Also don't forget that if users disable JavaScript, the list just makes things very much worse. I don't want to punish viewers for being cautious with the scripts they allow. -- Sixorish (talk) 23:19, August 20, 2012 (UTC)

I am open for other forms of the information provided by sidebars, but not in the sidebar. But actually I like the sidebars. Maybe we should have a poll, see what the community thinks? Also, we should ask Wikia statistics of how many visitors have JS disabled. -- Bennie (talk ~ fellows) 09:09, August 22, 2012 (UTC)

Improving display

Is there any reason to not change template_bodyposition to 130px ?

Also I would like to add a JavaScript sidebar toggler, can be seen here: w:c:dantest:Dragon or w:c:dantest:Heavy_Machete, any reason to not add it?

I have no problem with it but Wikia will probably jump down your throat if we use cookies... in some alternate universe it's against their ToU, along with skin modifications and drinking water. You may need approval from the devs. -- Sixorish (talk) 00:15, October 2, 2012 (UTC)

Thinking about alternatives ... what if we removed the sidebar and had a "Related" row with links to show lists? That way only people who actually want the list will see it, and it will be on a per-item/creature/npc basis, no need for cookies. -- Sixorish (talk) 00:29, October 2, 2012 (UTC)

The cookie is only to save the setting for users, without using cookies the script could do the same, just having a default for everyone's sidebars hidden or shown. I will contact wikia and ask about the cookies and this specific case. --Daniel Letalis (talk) 02:35, October 2, 2012 (UTC)

Bodposition is 200 because some templates look weird with less, Bold left hand text can get squashed. Change it by all means.

Sixorish, I don't think Wikia really minds using cookies (if you don't shove it in their face), I think the Mapper and/or Loot Parser use them as well.

Also: maybe we should remove the secondarytype in the upper-right corner of infoboxes, to prevent it from overlapping with the upper-left cornered implemented info. So in the upper-right corner only the primarytype would be displayed, this is usually enough information already. -- Bennie (talk ~ fellows) 07:42, October 2, 2012 (UTC)
