I only added each template to each creature to test and because is too late here.....
Is there a list of Categories??? i was searching for a link with all the existant categories...
and a suggestion.... what about adding something to Runes,Spells,Items, and Creatures template to categorize them, so each monster, rune, spell and item will be categorized.
I know the code to add a page to a category so i can do it, im just "asking for permission" =P

What that does is adds your page to IFD and alphabatizes it as if it were titled "Bad images". You gotta change [[Category:...]] to [[:Category:...]]. Might want to fix it before your page gets converted into bitmap and deleted. On the other hand, your HTML skills are great. :P

Key Pages

Would it be useful/reasonable/moral to create a separate page for each key (e.g. "http://tibia.erig.net/Key_4043")?

If this was done, then it would also be logical to create an "infobox" template for keys (similar to Template:Infobox Item).

There are concerns about quest spoiling. I am open to suggestions.

I would be happy to do some of the work for this, but I wanted to make sure it was a "good idea" before I did. Conversely, it may just be a "good idea" to forget about it.

--  Veni, vidi, volo in domum redire
--  Whitelaces †  Talk †  -- 13:57, 12 October 2005 (EDT)

Well, since there is only minimal info for most keys, the ideal situation would be achievable if only the MediaWiki software allowed for section redirects. Example:

[[List_of_Keys]] contains "==Keys==" and "===4043===" , and...
[[Key_4043]] contains "#redirect [[List_of_Keys#4043]]"

but this is not possible. It sends you to the top of the page instead. Such a feature is not likely to be added in any software update according to this link. So sad.
Give me time and I'll come up with something better though.

Rune Farmer–(talk)–(edits)–(profile)–(guild)–(house) 03:44, 13 October 2005 (EDT)

That's alright. I was just trying to think of how a normal site visitor would find the info in this wiki to be the most useful. Also, having a more structured organization of the keys may encourage others to fill in the missing information (make it easier for them, and therefore more likely to occur).

I saw the key template you were playing around with in TibiaWiki:Playground. This is almost exactly what I was thinking of. I am still a little concerned about quest spoiling, though. Should I even worry about it? Is there any information someone would want to know about a key if they didn't want to quest-spoil?

-- Veni, vidi, volo in domum redire
--  Whitelaces †  Talk †  -- 09:05, 13 October 2005 (EDT)

Yup i figured it out I think. The coding on the key page (Playground/Key_3142) is really tricky though. It uses the same set of info, but it displays differently depending on whether you are viewing the page directly (using Playground/T2) or as part of the list (Playground/List of Keys, using Playground/T1). If I can tweak this a bit and make it easier for people to make new pages without being concerned with how it actually works (see Wikipedia:Black box) we could be onto something really good here. And we would use it for item/creature/etc lists too. I'll rack my brain on it some other time. Now I need to go to sleep.

Rune Farmer–(talk)–(edits)–(profile)–(guild)–(house) 09:43, 13 October 2005 (EDT)

I decided to be bold like Leeroy Jenkins and do this thing. Needs contribution from somebody who knows more about individual keys, though.

Login/Skin problems

Hey Alreth, I saw the issue you mentioned at User talk:Erig...

I too can't login with my old username, Alreth, anymore. Every
screen turns blank when I'm logged in as that. :(
--Alreth2 15:13, 29 October 2005 (EDT)

...and I was wondering whether you were ever able to fix this. I believe had the same problem as you did, on my User:Rune Farmer account. I figured out how to regain access. I think it has to do with some of the skins being broken so to speak. So I changed back to the default skin without actually being able to see, onscreen, what I was doing. If you are still having this problem, or if anybody else is, I will explain what I did.

Rune Farmer–(talk)–(edits)–(profile)–(guild)–(house) 10:13, 5 November 2005 (EST)

I think I can guess how you did it, however Erig has already fixed it for me. Thanks anyway!

"Arm. Blocks 19-34 hp"

Where did you get that formula you're using to calculate how much damage your armor can block? Cause it's different from what I read on TibiaCity. I'd love to know which one is correct :)

Mathias (profile, talk) · Favelets · Formulas — 02:49, 9 January 2007 (PST)

It's part of the Template:Equips_Set.
--  Alreth »  Talk »  Contributions »   05:22, 9 January 2007 (PST)

The formula actually came from Arshalo. From his userpage you can find the thread where he posted all of his formulas for rune/spell damage, affects of amulets and rings, armor, etc.

I cannot guarantee the accuracy of the formula, but it seems to be very reasonable.

Compared to the TibiaCity formula, the one that Arshalo came up with is actually a little more restrictive. (.5 - .9x instead of .5 - 1x).

If you find that one is incorrect, please post your findings to my talk page. I am very interested in knowing this kind of stuff.

Re: Unnamed image Uploads

The images I uploaded have no ingame name yet (or no known one), I added them for the page Unused Sprites, as an index of sprites that are yet to be seen ingame. I opened a talk page for it aswell, Talk:Unused Sprites. The numbers those files have is the number they have in the sprites.

NPCs and stuff

Hi Alreth, Thanks for your contributions lately on NPC pictures. We are almost done to get all pictures. There are still 21 from the ~427 left which need to be done. Also thanks for deleting those double NPC pictures. There are a lot more of them which were already replaced a long time ago. I shall add the Image For Deletion template so you (or some other admin) can delete them.

Admin

Dear Alreth, I am Bennie and glad I became member of you, the administrator team.
As can be read here you, as an admin of a supported fansite, could represent TibiaWiki during private test servers. It would be very kind if you private messaged Erig (our boss) explaining who you are and telling your email address. Even if you don't want to use this opportunity, you could still message Erig so he knows that.
You have time until Christmas 2008, but the sooner the better!
Thanks in advance,

^^  º Bennie º  ¤ Talk ¤  º Admins º  ^^ 21:29, 18 August 2008 (UTC)

Thanks Bennie, and welcome to the team. :-) As I am an senior tutor I can already access the Testservers. My email is also already posted on my userpage. Thanks for the note anyway and good luck with your new job! ::thumbs_up::

Gurka

Why did you make Gurka redirect to Cucumber?
Gurka is a non-English word, then it shouldn't redirect to anything.
I deleted Gurka since I couldn't see a good reason to it exists.

A Ghostly Woman

Hi, You uploaded a new version of Image:A Ghostly Woman.gif, with the name above it. Although we use names above NPCs as a standard, in this case it is impossible to see the name of this NPC in-game, because it is unreachable. I'm not sure if it is better to standardize all images, or reflect the in-game situation. What do you think? ^^ Bennie (talk ~ fellows) ^^ 18:33, 16 March 2009 (UTC)

Heylo Bennie! I think it would be good to always use name over the character for all NPCs to make it easier to distinguish NPCs from creatures. What's your opinion?
→  « Alreth »  « Talk »  « Contributions »  ← 02:21, 17 March 2009 (UTC)

Using the method to attain those pictures is the problem - because they can't be reached, users might see it as a way of us condoning the use of external programs (i.e 'floorhacks'..), I doubt it was taken by illegal means because of the quality of it, but users won't know your exact source and can only assume... -- Sixorish 13:08, 17 March 2009 (UTC)

There are third-party programs to choose random outfits and names, I don't know if it is illegal. More legal would be copy/pasting the characters of the name from other names and/or fill it in by yourself pixel by pixel. I don't think users would assume the images were taken illegally, but it could be. Actually I think it is better to not put those names there if you can't see them in-game. ^^ Bennie (talk ~ fellows) ^^ 14:39, 17 March 2009 (UTC)

I used an memory editor to edit my own name and outfit to look like the NPC. These changes only affects my own client, thought, so they don't give any advantages and probably aren't illegal.
Is there a way for us to ask the community, the "general player", about how they think about this? I think we (admins) have more knowledge about these programs etc than the average Joe has and we therefore think differently about the image compared to what they think.

Slide Show Widget

Hiya Alreth,

I'd like to take a quick second to tell you about an exciting new feature we have enabled on your wiki.

With the slide show widget, you can show off content on the Fallout wiki by:

Create your own

To create your own widget visit the creation page and start having fun.

Keep in mind this is the ground level for this product, we will create a more robust tool based on feedback. Currently Sysops and staff have access to the tool. We would love to hear about what you want to showcase on the widget in the future and value your feedback.

Let us know what you think below.

Thanks, Doug

Hello Doug! I can't get the WikiaWidget to work. The images (using the example images that are preset when you first go to the page) aren't showing up. I'm using Internet Explorer 7 on this computer.

Doh, I know you will need to set the image url, and not the page url the image is on for the image to show up. There are some changes that will be released today, so we'll see if that fixes your error...otherwise, you might want to try FF :). -- Doug (talk) 01:23, 19 March 2009 (UTC)

It works now, thanks. :-)

DPL Performance Improvements: Testing Next Week

Hello,

In recent weeks, our engineering staff has been reworking some code of the DynamicPageList (DPL) extension in order to correct a bug and, by extension, dramatically improve query performance, speeding up article page load times.

We are intending to push that change live on your wiki Monday, May 13th. This change should be invisible - the actual wikitext nor the visual output of DPL queries is expected to change. We are confident this should be a smooth rollout due to testing we did prior to this stage. However, as your community is one of the largest on Fandom using DPL, I wanted to proactively inform you of this change so you can be on the lookout for any unexpected problems.

If next week you notice any sort of unusual issues with DPL, please report them immediately through Special:Contact. You can refer to "PLAT-8725" in any bug reports to help us more efficiently triage the concern.

Thanks! --TimmyQuivy (help forum | blog) 16:11, 10 May 2024 (UTC)
