The so-called Tibia "Bosses" are unique in their own races. They are stronger than any of the creatures like them, and some of them are relatively rare to encounter. Most bosses are also 'leaders' of the groups they belong to.

Many Bosses do not spawn like normal creatures and are only found in a world on rare occasions depending upon the abilities of the players in that world. If they are not killed in one day, then they disappear until another time. Some powerful bosses (like Orshabaal) are usually forewarned by multiple white text messages appearing onscreen, like the monster raids. Most other bosses randomly spawn without warning, providing an unpleasant surprise for anyone in the area. These raid bosses are not restricted by the normal "anti-luring" boundaries, and they will not "poof" when they wander too far from their spawn point. However, most of them disappear if they aren't killed in a certain amount of time (e.g. Ghazbaran).

There are also many bosses with known spawn mechanics, which are usually part of a quest. In theses cases, there's usually some sort of system that prevents players from killing the bosses multiple times, such as a cooldown to access the fight (e.g. 20 hours or 14 days, like most Lever Bosses), a time-limit inside the boss room (e.g. Jaul) or a price to be paid (e.g. Prince Drazzak).

Bosses with regular spawn and no system limiting access to them are frequently called minibosses or even microbosses, for example, Gaffir.
